These are events that are sponsored on a regular basis by RCS.
Some are monthly and others are on a more seasonal basis.
Monthly Membership Meeting
Every month we gather to plan out the upcoming month's activities.
This is a great way to initially meet the group in a relaxed
setting. Everyone is welcomed to sponsor an event for RCS.
Meetings usually take place on the Second Sunday of the month
except during Holiday weekends.
Happy Hour
Twice a month we gather to socialize
at this well attended event right after work. This is a great
event
to meet new people and catch up with those you haven't seen in
awhile. There's no RSVP, you can come an go as you like. Most
of time attendees stay and have dinner. To accommodate those
on both sides of the river, we have one Southside and one West
End/Fan
gathering.
International Dinner
Once a month we pick a different international restaurant to eat
supper. Some of the places we have eaten at in the past have been
Italian, Chinese, Vietnamese, Greek, Mexican and American.
Byrd Movie
One Saturday a month we meet down at the Byrd Theatre in the Fan
to see what's showing for $2. Some people consider this the best
deal in town. Afterwards, we sometimes go out for dessert or to
a place to relax and socialize.
Discover Virginia
We take the time here to plan an event that showcases what Virginia
has to offer from a historical and cultural perspective. Some
of the activities have included a trip to Luray Caverns, a tour
of Hollywood Cemetery, and a guided tour of St. John's Episcopal
Church where Patrick Henry delivered his famous speech, "Give
Me Liberty or Give Me Death." If you're new to the area this
is a great way to learn about Virginia.
Billiards Night
Usually taking place in the Spring, we
schedule a night where we can meet and shoot some pool. Skill
is definitely not a requirement. It's always a fun time and another
great activity to meet new members.
Extreme Bowling
Yes, bowling to the max! This is a winter/Spring late night activity.
We bowl in the dark and on the 3rd game we lift up the gutter
rails and play bumper bowling.
We hold several parties a year so that members can gather and socialize.
In most cases, RCS provides a buffet and soft drinks. We do not
serve alcohol, however our events are BYOB.
Super Bowl Party
This was the event that kicked off RCS
over 10 years ago. We gather at a member's house and watch the
big game. Guests usually bring good eats to munch on throughout
the evening.
Mardi Gras
Held in late winter we celebrate
Fat Tuesday. There's New Orleans-style snack food, door
prizes, Mardi Gras beads, and a dance. We encourage everyone
to dress
outrageously.
Spring Fling Party
In early May we have a party with a Mexican
feel. We have snacks, drinks, and a piñata to bat around.
Luau Party
We mark the end of the summer with a Luau
Party. We have a tropical food spread, dance, and a Limbo contest.
Thanksgiving Dinner
Usually taking place a week before the
Thanksgiving holiday, this event is great to spend time with your
friends before the season begins. RCS provides the turkey and
soft drinks. Members bring their own special homemade recipes
as part of the buffet.
Richmond Braves Baseball
Enjoy an afternoon or evening watching America's
favorite pastime. We usually meet out front and purchase general
admission tickets. Kick back and enjoy some hot dogs, peanuts and
cold beverage of your choice.
Mass and a Meal
Every month we schedule either a Saturday
evening or Sunday morning Mass at various churches in the area.
Afterwards we go out for either dinner or lunch.
Mountain Getaway
In April RCS takes a trip to the Shenandoah
mountains for a weekend of hiking, nature discovery, and fun.
We rent motel rooms at a lodge and relax.
Camping Trip
Pack up a tent and supplies and camp in
one of Shenandoah's natural parks. We cook on the grill, go on
a hike, and socialize around a campfire.
Beach Trip
We travel to the ocean to spend a weekend in the sand. It's a
different location each year. We'll either stay in a beach house
or motel room depending on the accommodations.
St. Patrick Day Festival
Come celebrate Irish culture at St. Patrick's Church in Church
Hill. The festive event has bands, food, and all kinds of crafts.
Greek Festival
The Greek Festival, a popular event in Richmond, always draws
a large crowd each year. We enjoy food, crafts, and Greek Culture.
Oktoberfest
If there is one place you know you're going to party hard it's
going to be Oktoberfest. RCS has its own tables reserved where
we eat, drink and be, oh so merry. Bratwurst, sauerkraut, and
excellent German desserts are there to fill your belly. If you
haven't done the Chicken Dance before, you'll be an expert at
it before the night is over.
Tacky Light Bus Tour
We meet at Stoney Point Parkway and hop
on a rented tour bus to view the tacky lighted houses in Richmond.
This is a very popular event with RCS because the party isn't
just outside the bus. We provide soft drinks and snacks.
